Always Innovating Touch Book

Ok, I know I don’t usually post about desktops, laptops, UMPCs, netbooks, nettops, etc. however this is an exception. This little piece of equipment is possibly the coolest netbook/UMPC I’ve ever seen, and for an amazing price.
Always Innovating released their Touch Book and its basically a touch-screen netbook where the screen can be removed from the keyboard! Now this might not seem amazing until you find out the price of this little gem: $299 for the tablet, $399 if you also want the keyboard (which we all know you do)
The tablet is build on Linux, with a custom touch friendly 3D interface. The specs for the tablet are:
- 9.4″ x 7″ x 1.4″ for 2 lbs (with keyboard)
- ARM Texas Instruments OMAP3 chip
- 1024×600 8.9” screen
- Storage: 8GB SD card
- Wifi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth
- 3-dimensional accelerometer
- Speakers, micro and headphone
- 6 USB 2.0 (3 internal, 3 external)
- 10+ hours of battery life
If you ask me, this is amazing. The tablet may not be super fast, but it won’t be sluggish, the screen is very high resolution and it includes N-WiFi and Bluetooth, which aren’t exactly common for netbooks. And it includes an accelerometer, which is unheard of in most laptops/netbooks! Finally, the battery power is just amazing and the fact that an SD card is used for storage means we can easily upgrade to 32GB or even 64GB!
This is one product which I REALLY want to acquire, and would likely pair it with my Bluetooth SiRFstarIII GPS receiver and use it in the car for navigation, audio/video, browsing (via my cell), etc.
I might even use it as an e-book reader on my travels!
